A collection of my own music projects
Spirits in the water
This piece is very close to my heart.
I struggled to finish it for months until, on a walk one day, my three-year-old quietly began repeating the phrase “spirits in the water.”
I managed to capture the moment on my phone, and that small, unexpected fragment became the final piece of the puzzle.
Jiwon, Sunset in the forest (Green and Gold)
This piece of music was inspired by the character of Jiwon from Mother Midnight.
I wrote it as a theme for the longing and more beautiful side of her inner world. As the piece developed, the image of her walking through a forest at sunset became very vivid to me, with golden light filtering through green leaves.
As the track progresses, I could see her slowly drifting into a more meditative state.
Although the piano theme appears only briefly in the film, I felt compelled to develop it into a finished, standalone piece.
The Garden
The Garden is centred around a beautiful piece of spoken word from Dr. Sy Gart, a retired biochemist who describes a series of profound dreams that transformed his worldview.
I felt compelled to create a sonic landscape for the dreams he shares here, to sit with his words. Composing music for such a rich and vivid description of his inner world was a beautiful experience.
Floating silently through the night
This was inspired by a reacquiring childhood dream.
In this dream I would float out of my bedroom window and drift quietly above the rooftops of my town.
Invisible and peaceful, it was a good dream.
Storm in the city, shelter in the chapel
This piece was inspired by an amazing experience, I was caught in an heavy thunderstorm on the streets of London.
We eventually made it through the rain and found refuge inside St Paul’s Cathedral.
It was such a powerful and sudden shift from chaos to calm and shelter inside that wonderful building.
Something to big to be seen
This piece began as a sonic experiment, but over time grew into something much more personal.
Much of the piece was created using an old Laney tube amp given to me by a friend who passed away far too young.
It has since become a quiet memorial to him.
