Indie Music Production & Mixing
Artist-focused · Bournemouth-based · Working remotely & worldwide
Alongside my work as a composer, I work as a music producer and mix engineer, collaborating with independent artists to help songs and records reach their full potential.
From my Bournemouth-based studio, I work both in person and remotely. Some projects involve production from the earliest stages, while others begin later in the process, shaping, balancing, and bringing clarity to material that’s already been written and recorded.
In both cases, my approach is slow, considered, and collaborative, guided by the song and the artist rather than a fixed sound or formula.
Selected Production & Mixing Work
Below is a small selection of artist-led production and mixing projects. These collaborations reflect the kind of work I’m most drawn to, song-focused, considered, and built around trust and long-term creative relationships.
Rather than presenting everything, this selection offers a sense of how I work across different artists and projects, where production and mixing often overlap in service of the song.
Heatwavers
The Heatwavers are a duo originating in the UK. This is a collection of songs written by the Heatwavers and produced by myself.
It was (and still is) such a joy to be a part of the Heatwavers creative team! their music has become very close to my heart.

Inside the Session: Producing & Mixing "Quarantine" by Toby Catt
In this in-depth production breakdown, I do a step-by-step mixing and production breakdown inside my session for Toby Catt’s track, "Quarantine."
I walk through my specific workflow for:
Vocal Production: Building clarity and emotional resonance in the mix.
Creative Sound Design: Layering textures to create a modern indie-pop atmosphere.
The Final Polish: How I use hybrid analogue/digital processing to ensure the track stands out on streaming platforms.

Who I Work With
I work with independent artists and bands who care deeply about their music and are open to a thoughtful, collaborative process. Many of the projects I’m involved in sit within alternative, folk, indie, hip-hop and experimental/bedroom pop worlds.
Some artists come to me looking for full production support, while others arrive with a finished arrangement and are looking for a mix that brings everything into focus. Often, those boundaries naturally blur, with small production details emerging through the mixing process, but always in service of the song.
If you value taste, balance, and trust as much as technical skill, we’re likely to work well together.
Let’s make something together.
I’ve spent the last 20 years obsessed with how sound works, whether that’s building immersive landscapes for brands like Hyundai and Dolby, working on documentrys/films, or sitting in a room helping a songwriter find the right sonic world for a track.
I know that choosing someone to handle your songs is a huge act of trust. It’s not just about the gear or the credits; it’s about making sure the person "gets" your vision.
If you’re looking for a partner to help polish your mix or build your next production from the ground up, I’d love to hear what you’re working on. I offer a free mix consultation, no strings attached, just to see if our workflows click and if I’m the right fit for your sound.
FAQs
Can we work together remotely?
1
Yes. I regularly collaborate with artists, bands, and filmmakers worldwide through remote music production and mixing. I use Source-Connect, which allows us to video chat directly inside my Pro Tools session and share high-quality, real-time audio. It feels exactly like being in the room together, all you need is a laptop and a pair of headphones to join the session and give feedback in real time.
What genres of music do you specialize in?
2
I primarily work with independent artists, rappers, and songwriters across Indie, Alternative, Electronic, Singer-Songwriter, Hip-hop, and Experimental music. I’m most drawn to projects with a distinct artistic voice and a willingness to explore new ideas. Whether you’re an Indie-Pop duo or an Alternative songwriter, I focus on finding the right "vibe" that makes your music stand out.
What services do you provide as a producer and mixer?
3
My role is flexible and depends entirely on what your project needs to reach its full potential. This can include artist production, arrangement support, creative sound design, and detailed mixing. Sometimes I’m involved from the very first demo; other times, I’m brought in to bring professional clarity and cohesion to a final mix. The common thread in all my work is collaboration and careful listening.
Where is your studio located?
4
I am based in Bournemouth, UK, operating out of my private studio under the name Jack Irving Music (which many of my long-term clients know as Echo Room Recordings). Being located in Bournemouth allows me to serve the local creative community in the South West, while my hybrid setup makes remote collaboration seamless for international artists and filmmakers. Whether you’re looking for a music producer in Bournemouth or a remote mix engineer, my studio is fully equipped for professional, high-end production.
